David graduated from university with a Bachelor of Laws in 1997 before completing his Master of Laws in 2003 at UWA. He also holds a Bachelor of Science and a Graduate Diploma in Education.

 

David is a highly experienced criminal trial lawyer, having appeared in countless jury trials over the past 25 years in the District and Supreme Court jurisdictions of Western Australia. David prides himself on his client-centred approach and his ability to build a strong rapport with clients and witnesses from all backgrounds.

 

David has experience appearing as both prosecution and defence in criminal matters and as a lawyer in private practice. He has also held the position of Principal Registrar of the Coroner’s Court of Western Australia. Aside from criminal law, David has interests in family law, wills, personal injuries and general litigation.

 

David is chairperson of the Criminal Law Committee at the Law Society of Western Australia and is a representative of the National Criminal Law Committee of the Law Council of Australia.

 

David is passionate about education and has lectured at a number of universities, as well as the College of Law and the former Articles Training Program. He has mentored and supervised junior lawyers throughout his career. David is also passionate about mental health and wellbeing in the legal profession and was chairperson of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee of the Law Society of Western Australia for several years.

 

David was voted Lawyer of the Year in 2024 as recognition of his long-time advocacy for the advancement of the legal profession, particularly relating to improved mental health and wellbeing, legal education and his volunteering efforts.
